Dance Against Violence

The Dance Against Violence concept was created in New York and has been implemented in Montréal since 2010. It is a series of dance workshops created by the members of Montréal Danse and Agora de la danse which are held in women’s shelters.

In 2013-2014, our shelter provided 18 workshops for our residents and former residents. Seventeen women and five children benefited from this activity. The purpose of these workshops is to enable women to reclaim their body and use it to express themselves. The activities follow each woman’s pace, all in the spirit of having fun. The activity leader aims to foster a sense of freedom, openness and creativity amongst the group. These workshops become a place of exchange, support and sharing for the participants.

For further information about this project, please refer to the Dance Against Violence website.
